Some people work part–time because they have other family commitments or they are studying for a future career while others just prefer to work part–time rather than full–time, or to work more than one part–time job for the variety.

Part-Time Work

There are plenty of part-time jobs around, although a lot of them will not carry the same sort of benefits package that you would expect from full-time employment. Whether or not you have education and experience in a certain field it is still possible to find part-time work. Cleaning, healthcare, and teaching-support services are always looking for part-time staff at non-professional as well as professional levels.

If you have a professional teaching qualification or a qualification in healthcare then finding suitable part-time employment should not be too difficult since these industries are constantly looking for reliable, suitably qualified, part-time workers. Sometimes it is possible to find a part-time job that leads to a career qualification, although these are in high demand and there are not very many of them around.

It is a good idea if you have some notion of the area that you would like to work in. It is easier to look for part-time work if you start with a particular industry. Some industries are harder to break into than others, but that is not to say it is impossible. If you have little or no relevant qualifications but wanted to find part-time jobs in broadcasting then it may not be easy, but there are some opportunities around. One of the best ways to start your search for part-time jobs is from a dedicated Web site, especially one that pulls in all the available part-time jobs from every industry. If you really want to break into a particular field and are determined in your search and in your desire to do a good job, then you should eventually be able to find a suitable part-time job. It may be worth getting some further training in the industry in which you would like to work since this would go in your favor during the application process.

Working in Broadcasting

If you eventually wanted to work as a producer then some part-time work in broadcasting would be an ideal start to your future career. However, as with all jobs, and with media jobs in particular, there is huge competition in the broadcasting and production industry. Producing can be a stressful job, and if the shows you produce do not go high in the ratings, then industry executives will not hesitate to take your show off the air.

It is possible to get part-time broadcasting jobs if you specialize in lighting and electricity. As a technician it would be your job to ensure that all the equipment used on a particular production is in good working order. You would also have to set up the lighting equipment so that it focused on the areas that the director thinks are important to the production. If you have any professional experience as a photographer then it might be worth looking at part-time camera-operator vacancies. In television the cameraman is an important part of any production. If you have the right training then part-time work is possible in this area of broadcasting.

Getting Part-time Work as a Disc Jockey

If you would prefer part-time work in radio broadcasting, then it may be possible to find a part-time job as a DJ, especially if you already have experience working bars and clubs. People who DJ on the radio need to be able to communicate well with all kinds of people including pop stars and other celebrities. You need to have an outgoing personality to succeed in this industry and be able to operate on both a professional and personal level with your audience. You need to be both a good listener and an excellent speaker if you are to succeed as a DJ or in any other area of broadcasting. Just because you work part-time hours does not mean that you can be only partially committed to the job. Working in broadcasting requires a high level of motivation and dedication if you are to succeed. You also need to be able to think on your feet. Whether or not a DJ works in broadcasting or at selected venues, he or she needs to be prepared to meet whatever challenges each individual gig presents him or her with.

Part-time broadcasting jobs are not numerous and getting that first gig may take some time and a lot of determination. Whatever area of broadcasting you want to work in, you will find it easier to get a job if you already have some experience or at least some transferable skills that could translate to the broadcasting industry.

Whatever industry you want to work in, you will find it much easier to get a job as a part-time professional if you already have the requisite training and experience. If the industry you want to break into is virtually closed to non-professionals then you need to update your skills in the area that you prefer.
